My Own Home Hunting Journey

When I was an art student in Amsterdam, I never imagined I’d be buying an apartment at that age. But with the crazy housing market back then—even 25 years ago—it felt like I had no choice. In just the first two years, I moved eight times, chasing affordable spaces, rushing from one temporary home to the next. And by home I mean: 3×3 meter attack spaceswith a bathroom two floors down… or a 2×4 meter garage behind our student gallery. With BIG HAIRY SPIDERS!!!!
Well—if you’ve ever had very little money in a popular city, you know the jazz…

Eventually, my dear parents took pity on me, and we decided to buy. Under great stress, I bought the best apartment I could find at that moment. I had exactly five minutes to decide (real estate agent: “If you don’t sign now, there are 150 people waiting…”).
Mind you: it was a winter evening, dark and freezing cold, and we viewed the place with a torch…!!

It was a cute little apartment, right opposite a popular park, and I saw the potential immediately. But once I started living there, something felt off. I became confused, overwhelmed, and strangely depressed—without any obvious reason. Or so it seemed. Eventually, I ended up in a burnout that lasted two years.

Those two years became a deep period of reflection. I left the art world behind and discovered Feng Shui and Space Clearing. I started transforming that tiny apartment into a beautiful little gem. And yet—no matter how much I arranged, cleared, and refined—the energy of the place simply didn’t fit my energy (KUA numbers, Ba Zi profile). Living there kept draining me. I felt stuck.
And I stayed stuck—for almost 25 years.

Then life intervened. In the form of some truly nasty new neighbors, who managed to bully me out of my apartment within just a few months. And I don’t mean luck cynically here—this turned out to be the best twist of fate imaginable.

I moved to a new apartment in another city. A city I had always loved, but never really had a reason to move to. Suddenly, everything made sense. The landscape perfectly feeds my Earth / Metal nature: rolling hills, the river Rhine right in front of my balcony, vast nature reserves all around, and a very cute gem of a Dutch city.

And then there was the apartment itself.

When I was in my twenties, my dream apartment had always looked the same in my imagination: high moulded ceilings, huge old sliding doors, lots of windows, and trees outside that would cast a beautiful play of shadow and light on the walls.
Well… you guessed it. I found exactly that place. (Thank you, dear neighbors 😉)

When I saw it online, I fell in love within seconds. House hunting really can feel a bit like Tinder, can’t it? 😉

But this time, before buying, I made sure the Feng Shui was right. And—BINGO. The sectors that support my energy are spacious and well nourished with Chi. I can place my furniture in ways that truly support me. Everything flows.

Every aspect of this space now aligns with my energy. And the difference is tangible. I feel grounded, at ease, and deeply at home. And it’s not just the apartment—other areas of my life have naturally started to fall into place as well.
(AND: I now have really nice neighbors!! 😊)

I can honestly say that I am truly happy, and for the first time in my life, I have the feeling that I have arrived.

This journey taught me one crucial thing: our spaces shape our lives. And when we honor the energy of a home, we don’t just live there—we can truly thrive.
